Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials

Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials

As contrarian opinions go, this is probably the most inconsequential one I’ve ever had, but Dunwall City Trials is my favourite of the three Dishonored DLCs. The primary reason is that it’s not just repeating highlights of the base game with a different protagonist and slightly altered capabilities. Instead, it remixes the base game’s content into new experiences that aren’t really offered anywhere else. Plus, since it’s just a challenge mode, it cuts down on the amount of sophomoric writing and voice acting we’re subjected to. There’s no arguing that the design of the challenges is often flawed. The requirements for some of them are outrageous, especially those that involve randomization, and a few make unfortunate use of invisible walls. But more often than not, they offer clever twists on proven, surprisingly multifaceted mechanics.
